Recently I’ve been busy competing abroad on the run up to selection for the European Championships in Holland. I competed Foold Uz (Spencer) in Compiegne CDI***** at the beginning of May where we had a really enjoyable show in the sun. It was great to catch up with all my friends that live abroad as it is the only time we see each other. Spencer had a great time and especially loved the prize giving’s when he thought he was an eventer! :D

Following Compiegne we had a speedy turn around before Somerford Park Premier League which was my final selection trial with Spencer for this year’s European short list. Somerford, as always, was a beautifully run show with good judges and excellent facilities for the horses. I took Francesco 77 (Frank) and Spencer to compete. Frank competed in the Advanced Medium 92 (Junior Team test) which went well. Despite a few communication difficulties (as we hadn’t been to a show since March) we finished 3rd on just short of 70% which I was pleasantly surprised with in an enormous class that seemed to last ALL day. There is still plenty of room for improvement but I am pleased with how his way of going is progressing. He will now spend time getting stronger and more established at a higher level before he comes out to compete again.

Spencer finished 5th in a huge PSG with the senior judge giving me over 71%. We were also the top U25 partnership which was great. We never go anywhere without the lorry fully packed with all our essentials which includes my NAF supplements and products! I absolutely LOVE NAF as I can always be confident in their effectiveness, quality and consistency. Spencer has severe allergies and NAF products seem to work really well with him.

After Somerford, Spencer went back home to Scotland for a mid-season holiday and then to get stronger and focus on some hill work to keep up his strength. Meanwhile, I had my university exams. I am so glad they are finished now and I can focus on Spencer on the lead up to Pre-European camp which is kindly hosted by Mr and Mrs Pidgley in Windsor as we have happily been short listed for this year’s European Championships in August.

Camp is next week with Spencer followed by the announcement of the team shortly after. Fingers crossed all goes well : )
