Jennifer Stead is an event rider on the horsescotland. This week we had Jenna send us her #JanuaryRecap!
With Christmas and New Year over, the eventing season is not far away! We are very busy
planning and preparing for our season with Hero, Odin and Luca. I also have a young 4 year old who has just gone for her first hack! She is called Roo, and has Cavalier Royale and Master Imp in her bloodlines and is taking everything in her stride so we are very excited. Fingers crossed she will get to some of the Young Event Horse classes.
Hero and Odin had about 7 weeks off after our last event last year at Ballindenisk, but I was still busy riding our other horses and schooling our training liveries. We have been doing lots of hacking since December, I’m lucky to live in a place surrounded by forestry and endless routes into the thick trees, up and down and all over the hills. Fantastic for clearing your mind and chilling out!
It has been a much busier winter than I had imagined! I took on some extra work with my
brother, waitressing at shoot meals. Certainly different to my usual day! I met lots of interesting people and it was incredible to wander round Mochrum Castle and even cook there. This week we moved into our new house, a cosy little cottage on the edge of a Loch in the middle of nowhere. We have stunning views and lots of walks to take our puppy, Florence (we call her Floppy).
Now January is nearly over and the nights are starting to pull out, the thought of venturing out to a cold venue to do some show jumping is a bit more appealing and I’m beginning to plan which competitions we will go to and how I will move Hero and Odin up to 1.30 and Luca up to 1.20.
We have our first session back with HorseScotland training in a few days, very excited to see
what we get up to and blow away some cobwebs!
