horsescotland is delighted to announce that Sonya Campbell Perry has been appointed to the role of Chief Executive with effect from the 14th April 2025.
Sonya has been a horse lover from an early age, from a distinctly non-horsey background, she was fortunate to get the opportunity, aged 13, to work for her rides at a trekking centre in the Scottish Borders. Further chances to ride came at University where she joined and captained the Uni Riding Club, and finally aged 21, was able to get her own horse.
Joining her first riding club at 22, she has been on the committee of several riding clubs for the last 28 years and has supported British Eventing Scotland, British Riding Clubs and the British Horse Society as a post holder and committee member during this time.
Her work background has covered both the private and public sectors, with a focus on business, management, and leadership. Focussing the last 20 years in the university sector where she has held multiple management roles and has latterly been lecturing and leading a degree programme in Business Management. She holds a Professional Doctorate focused on strategy and leadership, is a Chartered Manager with the CMI, is a Senior Fellow of AdvanceHE, and is an experienced coach, mentor, and qualified management trainer.
Her passion remains all things horse-related, with a focus on accessibility to equestrianism, and she now hopes to bring her experience, skills, and abilities together to support horsescotland.
